Not far from finishing, but need to understand an answer I have. 35d. Part of the clue is "sex repeatedly" which translates to VIVI in the answer. Why is sex VI? VI is six, unless we're French. Not encountered this before. Anyone know why?

'Sex' is an old reference to the number 'Six', yes.

VI is six in Roman numerals. The Latin for six is sex.
