In addition to not fully seeing the parsing, I'm also unsure of the definition

7d: drinking in - = absorbing (def)
din - noise
ring- sound of bell
kin- relatives

5d: rectorial = minister's (of a rector) (definition)
recto - front page
lair - retreat (reversed ; after U-turn)

I think?

Recto & Verso are right & Left pages (of a book) - retreat is a 'lair' making a U-turn = rial
