Answer appears to be pecan but why CAP +N
Any help appreciated thanks

You are right - it is pecan.
CEP (mushroom) backwards + A + N (Number)
= PECAN (nut).

mushroom = Cep (type of mushroom, originally I think French) reversed + A Number AN
