Is it just me, or is this one particularly awful?

After grappling with it since Monday, I'm now down to just two:

13d: That is cutting different types of knot, provided with point (5,5). The letters I have are: - O - I - / K - I - E The second word looks like KNIFE (provided = IF, point = E), but I'm stumped with the rest of it.

22a: Winged fighters prepared offensive, reportedly (4,4). The letters I have are: - A - E / - O - L

All help gratefully received!

BOWIE KNIFE

IE that is and BOW is a sort of knot. Does KN stand for nautical knots - speed?

Thanks. But what's a Bowie Knife, and whereabouts in the clue is the part which means the answer? Is it "that is cutting" (in other words, a knife) - and if so, how does the rest of it work? Or am I just being particularly dense?

The Bowie knife was invented by Jim Bowie (of "The Alamo" fame). It had a groove to let blood run away, I think.

I think the whole thing is supposed to be the definition, but I agree that it's a bit shaky!

I see it as
That is cutting.
And it also forms part of the clue.
Think they call it '&lit' ttype of clue.

Thanks chrise. You learn something new every day!

I'm still unsure about the structure of the clue, though...
