Are we allowed to discuss the Guardian Prize crosswords on this foru? If not ok but if so can someone give me a hint about 14 across?

Yes, discussing it is fine although, in general, people prefer hints rather than outright answers. And it's usually better to restate the clue and any crossing letters you have as some people won't have the crossword in front of them.

A hint for 14 across is that the answer is partially an anagram.

I've ground to a halt with only three left - 1d, 2d, 9a so any hints (not answers please) would be appreciated.

For prize crosswords hints only are usually given, not answers.

However, for those who haven't got the crossword, it's a good idea to give the clue and any crossers you already have.

1d is rather a loose definition. Put a word for "trivial" around R

2d I don't understand the definition, but base of utensil is L

9a is clever - look at "case of leading" carefully

btw I've just noticed that I didn't parse 14a - I just wrote it in after getting 27a!
