Foggy becomes Fogy, a square (old fashioned person). Losing a grand = drop a G.

Thank you all so much for fogy. As an ex-maths teacher, I was completely on the wrong track. Incidentally, when I just typed fogy, the spellcheck changed it to foggy.

I think Fogey is the more common spelling, but Fogy is in Chambers.
