Hard one this week. Can anyone help with the following please?

51ac: By the sound of it crop is rank (5) s-e-r

24dn: Paged through Bronte's autobiography (8,2,5)
s-m-o-e- b- t-l-s

5ac sf oops - backwards = spoofs

First one is "spoofs" -backwards sf, oops

24 d is surely "Summoned by Bells" - but I can't see why at the moment

Shear for crop (cut) sounds like sheer- utter, rank, the limit

shouldn't that be the other way round? sheer sounds like shear(crop)
