I've solved the clues and have fourteen sets of double letters but I can't see any connection between them?

Should there be? Does it matter?

I agree with your letters. The definition, though rather obscure, is the first word.

At long last the penny has dropped! Has watching 'Pointless' helped? No. I still don't understand what it's all about.
