I am not happy with "floe" and suspect I might have got one of the letters wrong. Try ???E for the drifter clue

I had "then" for 4 d but struggled to put it in the context of "hard to hold"

Floe seems good - Floes drift and it sounds like (noisily) flow.

I think it is "floe" - an ice floe, something that moves, but sounds like "flow" (the noise of.)

I've just finished it but had reservations about being the first to post a thread! I had concerns about floe too but Jolene has come to the same conclusion.

However, I thought 7d was a bastard of a clue! I'll be honest, I've never heard of the country and I am indebted to my electronic crossword solver for providing the answer from the checking letters. You can argue it's cheating but I can sleep soundly tonight.
