stuck on this clue - ingredient of chewing gum 6 letters a-a-i- please can anyone help

My wife says its ACACIA

This came up before in this forum.
The answer was either, Arabic (as in gum Arabic) or, Arabin (a derivative of gum Arabic).
Sorry to be a bit vague.Gum Arabic also helps ink stick to newspaper, and keeps the fizz in fizzy drinks.

My wife's reference book was the ingredient list on her packet of Orbit Chewing Gum, so any could be right I suppose

Arabic does come from an Acacia tree. So, as you say, any could be right. (I prefer your answer tho,'cause you got it off a packet of gum).
