Hi there "tail useless ultimately like a blind mouse" (4) ?C?T
Everyone!!! agrees that the ans is SCUT
However I cannot see any sense in this.
Could a dear person please do a parse with thanks

A scut is a tail.
Useless ultimately is the letter "s".
The three blind mice had their tails CUT off with a carving knife.
