Having trouble parsing last two in

16a "Some vacillate, seriously nervous" (3,2,4)

Seems to be ILL AT EASE having assumed answer contained within the two clue words but which doesn't work for EASE

52d "Pitcher used to be making base first" (4)

?W?R Looks like EWER but don't get the parsing

Any help much appreciated

16 yes ill at ease - contained in the words of the clue

52 Were (used to be) with last letter (base) coming first

oops see what you mean this must be a setters error

Unless the last letter of vacillate - e plus the first of seriously s - E'S sounds like ease - doubt it though

Shall assume the EASE bit is a setter error as you suggest unless anyone can see something different
