2. I've got Basenji for 53 across but can't parse it. Please could someone explain.

What are the relevant clues?

1. 20 down The clue is: critical, having short period for twitching that's very bad. I know that twitching is 'tic' but still can' t solve.

2. Clue to which answer is basenji: dog I poke around when it's swallowed bit of foreign money (7)

I jab (poke) reversed around sen (Malaysian currency)

1. criminal (very bad)
replace "tic" (twitching) wth "min" (short period)

Golly, I am a long way off being any good at this crossword lark. Thank you for such prompt replies.
