Have possible answers for my last two but if correct I dont get the word play:- 9 down Head in East London kept teacher up (N)O(D)D(L)E [HEAD?]and
13 across What might be taken for piercing sound of seabird S(K)E(W)E(R) - [SKUA?] would much appreciate some assistance

9 Don = teacher, eld = held, 'eld,(if said by a Cockney). Up - reverse them so Nod+Dle, noddle.

13 We had a discussion here earlier about Skewer/Skua - it's just that Skewer, what might be taken for piercing, supposedly sounds like Skua.
