Well done tatters and thanks for your vote along with dorrien and also aristo - glad you enjoyed the "King's Execution".

Thanks for hosting pigale, don't worry too much about the response or choosing a word to clue - I imagine in compiling a crossword one would be restricted by crossers anyway.

I've set a few crosswords in the past. Yes, the crossers can be a pain....and it's even harder if you try to stick to a theme!

Rossim, when setting a crossword, how do you get a grid? Is there a special programme for this?

Reason for asking is just in case it proved possible to set up a cryptic crossword in French...... which is not easy because we need so many more words to say the same thing as in English - but it is possible.

Pigale

I only ever did 13 x 13 and I used to copy some of the grids already printed in my local paper.
It made life much easier as building up your own, getting symmetry and numbering is a nightmare!
In French how do you deal with the accents?

Rossim, the grammar part of a sentence should tell you the verb ending according to the tense used in the clue, and for words, it is just assumed that everyone will know that there should be an accent (but of course they do not appear in crosswords). This is probably where there can be some subtle difference between one word with an accent meaning one thing, and the same word with no accent meaning something entirely different.

You're welcome and thanks Pigale. Good luck!

Does anyone else miss Les' Joint Effort? He did a really good job of compiling the crosswords. It was a lot of work and we only had to write the clues.
Newcomers might like to look back at some of our past efforts.

Well done tatters, cheers pigale.
Thanks for the mention aristo, it was a must with my recent escapade.

Cheers Rossim, the Joint Effort was great fun and I really enjoyed doing it but it was so time consuming and that's what I don't have as much of now with working.
Maybe I will have to knock up a special cus I'm still holding a load of compiled clues from the last JE which I didn't get time to complete, that may be fun cus the setters may not remember their clues, it's that long ago.
I remember it was mattrom's first time setting for it and unfortunately the last one (not completed) - maybe I owe it to you to put it together over the next couple of weeks, it may give me some inspiration to take up the baton again. Leave it with me. I'll work out if I've got some spare time to do it. It was always a great help from AB doing the solutions/parse file too.

Pigale, I've created many crosswords and if you want info on how to produce and the software available then send me a 'throwaway' email contact and I will make contact with you in private. I do have an email address which is only shared by regular forum members which I don't advertise openly on here. We have to make contact via a 'throwaway' email first before we make a more secure contact. Hope you understand that that's not me being arsey, it's to make sure nobody's details are compromised and their privacy is kept confidential, also, so that I don't get loads of offers to purchase dodgy kitchens.
If you type 'Joint Effort' in the search box, you will see the concept. With some setters that you won't recognise because they no longer post or are no longer with us (RIP Bullfrog)

Hello Les,

Thanks for advice - I have typed 'joint effort' in search box and was told 'no post could be found' ! In fact I can never get anything out of search box, don't really understand.
