Just stuck on 20d - "set up trick that is neat, heartless and greedy". I've got E?E?I?N?. Can't see an answer - but maybe I've got 26a wrong ... THE CROSS for "religious symbol". Any help appreciated.

Thanks, both. I have to admit that I've never come across the word "esurient"; though I am sometimes hungry ... but I hope never greedy. As for a Tau Cross, I don't "do" greek letters either - not beyond delta anyway!
