3d 'I' in 'ego' up first . Answer appears to be initial.
17d Thus dressing doctor in yellow, not entirely representative. Answer symbolic. I get sic and mb but where does yol fit in?

Backwards INITAL and insert the "I"

I'd seen Latin backwards but didn't make the connection and I'd tried thinking of 4 letter words starting yol_! I blame the hot weather...
