This has been the toughest Jumbo I can ever remember and I am still poring over these:-
43 Ac - "Scot's drunk small dram and promises to pay".
Surely this is SCORIOUS? I can parse it from "small"
onwards, but it leaves me with the overall meaning
of SCORIOUS being a Scottish word for "drunk", which
I can find no record of anywhere.
46 Down:- "See one at bridge very close to the ground".
This is 6 letters and I have -O-E -T.
25 Ac.- "Essential element of old bomb soldiers
sometimes guard". I make this "VITAMIN C" but am
unable to parse it.
1 Down:- "Why cut across desert in great heat?" It is
5 letters and I have W-A--.
16 Ac. "Teacher suspended after taking money in
poaching activity". (11) I have --A-H-N-ING.
Something hanging I should think.

Many thanks to one and all for your assistance. I've never
heard of "STOTIOUS" and was thinking of "SCORIOUS"
being a possibility because "COR" was a Phoenician measure. Should have seen 1 Down and 16 Across, but
had the wrong vitamin in "mind" to solve that particular one! Thanks again!

Must add CnrisG and Dagnabit, that STOTIOUS appears to be STOCIOUS when I checked it out.
