Is 1 ac a dd of the two words 'Dawdle' & 'Dabble'

I think the setters name should have been an obvious enough clue. "Potter" what was I had in mind before posting but had a theme in mind that suggested things like Wedgewood etc etc. Doh!

I can read to surfaces to Hendry and Taylor now on the last pair across clues.

Phil - some of them are - that's what I meant by a mixed bag. Not Wedgewood, though - I started looking for that one.

And for 13ac - First part meaning "thumped" and second part - someone who used to play in farces, and the whole is a 1ac.

Possibly obvious to everyone else - can anyone explain why this is "truss" - support obviously, but how does punctuation expert work?

Lynne Truss - a writer & broadcaster, think she might have worked for the Guardian at some point wrote a book about punctuation called Eats, Shoots & Leaves" which was something of a best-seller a few years ago.
It's quite funny in parts!
