The answer is "trickster" = con man (def)
but I cannot fully parse this?
I can see "rick" meaning "wrench"........but this is as far as I can get?
Explanation appreciated please!

tester - person who attempts. Replace e with trick?

I can see the replacement of "e" by "rick"
