13d: What's given pear, extraordinarily? (9)

The answer, an anagram, seems to be grapevine, but where is the definition part of the clue? It must be in what's, but I am clearly missing the point here. Thanks in advance for any help.

IT appears to an &lit, asking the solver "what is an anagram of 'given pear' "

Could you explain in more simple terms for me please? No one else but me seems to be having any trouble with this clue!

Thanks for your help, Eirlys I understand perfectly the reference you gave me, but I cannot see how it helps here. How is the whole clue a definition of grapevine?

The whole clue is a question and therefore "literally so" ? Maybe someone can explain better

The entire clue reads as "What's 'given pear' as an anagram?" (extraordinary being the anagrind)
- the anagram of "given pear " here is "grapevine"
I hope this helps?

I do not have the paper either ,Eirlys.

All I have done is to rewrite the clue for Roger, putting in "as an anagram" in the place of "extraordinary" (the anagrind)

I thought perhaps it might help him to understand the concept of "&lit"
