Clue in my local paper crossword

Reach a person of no spirit inside about the middle of May (6) A-T-I-

Is it ATTAIN (to reach) or ASTRID (name of a person and ID (IDES) being the middle of the month.)? I thought the latter.

I think it's ATTAIN being A TT (for person of no spirit) about A (middle of May) IN - if that makes sense...
