My last one: it's not covered in debut appearance (8,4). I have ?I?D?T?Y, ?U?T.

Also, 24a, Failed Tory finally runs again, being hopeful (10). I am certain that the answer is sanguinary, (anagram of y runs again) but this doesn't mean being hopeful, it means bloodthirsty? Clueing error?

I don't u'stand the "sanguinary" clue, either, I'm afraid!

BIRTHDAY SUIT looks like you have something wrong with 4th and 6th letters. I also have sanguinary but can't parse. Perhaps someone else can help there. I am sure birthday suit is correct.

Thanks for the replies. When I posted I swapped the d and t in my letters so birthday fits perfectly with the actual letters!

Glad I'm not obviously mad re 24a.

Dofray, my suspicion is that the setter has confused sanguine which does mean hopeful with sanguinary.

That explanation crossed my mind, too --- a pretty stupid mistake for "The Times" !!!

Though rarely used in that sense, the definition is sound.
