Hi all: 2 remaining answers are defeating me. All help is appreciated.

20ac Commit high treason? Sometimes one's put out with this (12) I have E?T?N?U?S?E?
THe answer seems to be extinguisher, & I can see the definition part of the clue, but where's the explanation?

27d Acquit top yeoman going before King Edward at end of service (9). I have E?O?E?A?E. THe answer's probably Exonerate, but why?

TIA,
Kangxi.

27 I can do the end. It's ER (King Edward) AT end of servicE

EXON out to be a beheaded yeoman, but I can't find one.

Thanks eirlys.

The only exons I knew are genetic - bits of code not in order in the rest of the gene.

Many thanks to all of you.
Extinguish ER - brilliant.
And Exon in that sense is certainly new to me, although I've just checked & it's in my Chambers.

Cheers all,
Kangxi.

Eirlys's link shows that the clue is wrong, though - exons are the lowest rank of yeomen, so not "top". I was thinking of "top" as meaning "behead" or "take the first letter off".

Chambers shows exon as one of the four commanding officers of the Yeomen of the Guard, but no mention of seniority

Ah! Most junior of the commanders. That's OK then.
