I've gone for NICOTINE. It fits, and I see that "not" is involved, but am not seeing the rest. Could anyone explain, please?

Never seen it before, cymro - I had to look it up too.

I've not seen it before .... knew the answer to the clue and googled the cat bit afterwards!
