22d: One shot in leg undeterred (3)
g?n
The answer is obviously GUN - hidden in clue
But why, please?
Am I being incredibly dense here?
Why doe "one shot" mean "gun"?

A single shot firearm is one that has to be reloaded after each shot?

I think it's fine - I read it as One/ a thing (that is) shot, so 'gun' fits. At first glance you could read it as one (as in the number) shot - but that wouldn't get you to the answer!

Yes, taking it that "one" means "a thing ", I can see it.....
I would never have got there though!
Thank you!

I'm glad my explanation worked for you, Elle - sometimes these little clues are harder to define/parse/whatever. The 'one' as in a thing would have been more obvious if the clue had been 'One fired...' but that would have been too easy!

I would have been struggling to explain that "until the cows come home", Malone!
