Actually I've been busy in the community theatre trying to sort out some fundamental design issues in the building. Ah, the wonders of the PFI system. The council tax payers have to fork out £45m for a new High School come Community Centre which only cost around £15m to build, whilst various companies cream off the difference over 30 years. Also the sea-kayaking season has started so I needed to get my boat cleaned up and into the water.

Like Philip, I got stuck on a couple. I had all but two clues finished in about 40 minutes but had to leave it to get inspiration for 1D & 4D. There were several misleading clues, particularly:

12A Wrongly read blotched printer's item. (12)

I spent a while trying to make an anagram of "READ BLOTCHED" until I realised my mistake. I didn't think much of 6A either. Very poor one this week.

Tell us what your six years old grand-daughter said about diamonds. Was it Lucy and the Beatles?

Was only joking. She's bright but does not have a warped mind like the compiler.
