1 D Roll up note with text for religious ceremonies.

I get BAPTISMS but need help to parse

2D Taking time out, cross bay (3)

I have V - E. I presume the "cross" is vote then minus the T but it makes no sense to me!

1. Bap = Roll, Ti = Note (doh ray mi) + SMS = short messaging service/text.

2 A Voe is a bay,it's a Scottish word.

roll = bap + ti + sms (text messages)

BAP is a bread roll, TI is a note and SMS in a "text". I don't see why the UP is there.

You might have heard of Sullom VOE, an oil terminal in Scotland

Bay is vo(t)e.
Roll is a bap.
A text is SMS.
Ti is a musical note.

Thanks people. I should have thought of the oil terminal at Sullom Voe.

@ chrise, since it's a down clue I took up to be on top off.
