17 across: Poem from a new father overwhelmed by son: one entering the world (5,3,6)

I have: ?e?u? a?d ?d?n?s
Sure the answer is Venu(s a(n)(d Ad_oni)s, but cannot parse the clue further than indicated. I want the 'entering the world' bit to be Venus! Am clearly wrong here. Help much appreciated.

23 across: State one's going to with complaint! (3)

I have i?l and am sure answer is ill, but why? IL is a state and ill is perhaps with complaint, but I am clearly missing something here. Help.
Thanks in advance. Roger

23 Ill is the abbreviation for Illinois.

Sorry if that was nonsense - I realised the US abbreviations are just two letters.

I think you've actually given the parsing, roger - it's the SANDADONI bit "entering" Venus, the "world.

My take on 23,
State = say.
One's going to = I will.
Shortened to I'll.
Complaint could be ill.
