Last one, 25A film, one as sequel to novel (5). I have S?E?T. Could I have a hint please? Is it film as in thin layer in which case it is fairly obvious although I can't see the parsing? Incidentally, the fifth letter in 16D can only be E surely - " reported" in clue?

cymro - re 16d, the last letter means it's a homophone whether an A or E is used.

Thanks, Chrise for the hint; I get it!
I get the homophone, Trevor but I assumed that it is obviously not literally rain because of the homophone.

Chris - Cymro (@11) thought it had to be an E.

...Cymro - homophone of rainy = raini or reini.

Sorry - misunderstood. The problem remains - the pronunciation would be identical.

Chris.i think your original post in this thread said it all. ...could be an E but probably intended to be an A.

Yes, Trevor, I take your point - could be either. However, in the spirit of the homophone I thought that ei was intended ( as far as away from rain as possible!)
