Why please?
1. Music appropriate for the Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze Ans Nonet
2. I objectively understand article's argument Ans Theme
3. Graphic staff sign in gloss Ans Note

I as the object of a verb is ME + (standing under) article is THE
argument is the definition.

I assume this is a down clue.

1. It is appropriate for the daring young man to have No Net.

3. Note is listed in my thesaurus as a synonym for annotate. I guess to "gloss" a document means to annotate it, hence "note". I don't like it much.

music note on a staff? maybe something to do with glossary?

Valroland, there's a website called Times For The Times which gives solutions and parsing for the Times crosswords. There's also a fair bit of discussion about the clues, parsing and so on. Perhaps this would be a good place for you to check? (If you'd given the date or the number of the crossword you had, I'd have looked them up.)

I have seen that site - the trouble is the book I have goes back to the 1970's. It is Jumbo Cryptic crosswords Book No 2 and begins August 1972 and ends Whitsun 1990. I don't think it goes back that far!! - but thank you for the information.
