I have "mentioned in despatches for 18a, but the letters to be anagrammed are puzzling me....

A distinct phenomenon is circulated after editor's intervention, (with bravery acknkwledged )

I have tried
A distinct phenomenon + ed
But too many o's

"dispatches" is also possible - but I can't see how to get rid of the extra O (you would need the "is" to be included in the fodder, somehow)

It doesn't help your query but, in this instance, it is DISPATCHES, not DESPATCHES. You will be in trouble with 8 down if you use DESPATCHES!

Now finished the crossword, but still no idea as to how the anagram letters work in 18a

agree compiler error, an 'on' superfluous.
