It's been a gargantuan struggle, but an enjoyable one, in
trying to complete Maskerade's masterpiece. He is a worthy successor to Araucaria, (the best ever), and to make
up a puzzle of this complexity takes a bit of doing, let alone
solving it!
I'm struggling with these and would appreciate a few pointers:-
L - "Unploughed land and river lass circling round" (3-3)
LEA -I-
C - "Two other theme words on the radio" (7)
CA-T-I- (name)
F - "He splits and leaves US sports team" (7)
F-A-C-S (if it's the only name I am
contemplating, I'm not sure if the sixth letter is "E" or "I")

Caitlin - sorry can't think of a clue for you

F your letters are correct and you are thinking of the correct name I bet ... if you add HE after your C ... the clue should become more clear!

Hi rocketman
I got the L one simply by looking up the first word in Chambers. Do't see the "river" bit, though.
C Two girls' names soun-likes to give a third.
F US teams (e.g. American football) are called something other than "teams" quite often. Take the two parts of HE out to give the name

Many thanks, Sudokulover and ChrisE for your assistance,
which is much appreciated! I have entered the Irish girl and
I see what's wanted as regards the US team, which left me with the male version of the name, of course!. Yes, the
"Lea" definition was in the Chambers, but like you, Chris,
I don't fully comprehend the clue. Because of the preponderance of names I hadn't used as many reference
guides as normal, but my foreign language dictionaries certainly came in useful for the 7-lettered "R" and the 12-lettered "Z"!!

In L, the river is ea (see Chambers), only ever seen in Crypticcrosswordland.

Thanks peterm
Conincidentally I am reading one of the later "Wizard of Earthsea" books at the moment - Ea is a sea in those.

Re: L ....(3,3)
Given the lass is circling the river - I think 'round' suggests all letters are reversed - so my take is the river is the 'AE' - a tributary of the River Annan in Scotland.

really hard to give clues to the T's (yes to your Z question tho).
the 2nd T clue is the name clue.
the 1st T has pam as the last 3 letters (apparently synonymous with jack).

re the lea - clue,
apparently "ea" is ok for River, i didn't check why but it had to be, with a synonym for Lass backwards to give a pretty obscure (i think) term.
