I had made an error with 7 across.
Maybe there's a yeti called Owen.....unlikely

The clues for 9 and 10 D had ellipses, then 11 and 12 D did too - and I don't think either set/link worked very well!

I thought it could be PEACE (a homophone of Piece - 'says a bit') but I can't see where 'Companion' fits in - or maybe it's something else.
