34 a I have discouragement and thought 27 d was verger but the 't' at end of discouragement does not fit. For 27 d I have
?e?t?r Something obvious I am sure but could someone please tell me where I have gone wrong? Guess 'verger' must be wrong. Thanks and Happy Christmas to you all!

27d Church official - Rector

Sorry, rather assumed you had crossword! 34a is 'process of making someone lose confidence' -14 letters. 'discouragement' fits but then 27d is 'Church official' - 6 letters. The 't' at the end of 'discouragement' is the problem.

Silly me! Should have known that! Years ago (many) at school we had a rector at the school church - very boring sermons but the curate was worse - 'verbose' describes both! Many thanks again, and Happy Christmas and New Year.

I must say Liverpool looks lovely with all the decorations around the Albert Dock, the city and the waterfront. We heard the Messiah at the Anglican Cathedral and last Saturday went to the Swedish Lucia service, again in the Anglican Cathedral. All so wonderful! Have a great Christmas! xx
