Sorry to be late to this puzzle but I'm damned if I can parse this clue - if my answer's right that is!

40 ac (7,2) g?n?i?g ?p - which I think is 'ganging up'

Clue: 'Coming together, dog and horse circle round trap'. I can see 'gin' for 'trap' but just can't get the rest.

Pug + Nag , both reversed around Gin.

pug and nag (dog and horse) backwards.
