Glad I was right about slender but I have to say I think it was a bit of a weak clue.

Not a fan of clues where the answer comes exclusively from the word in brackets. It's as if the rest of the clue is irrelevant. I'm being picky though!

I tend to agree.
Chambers synonyms for slender appear, in order as:
Thin or narrow, slim, slight, meagre.
Meagre fits the clue perfectly
