13A: It stops bats ominously losing old lustre (10)
The answer is obviously 'luminosity' = lustre (def)
I can see that it is an anagram of 'it' and (o) 'minously' but where does "stops bats" come into it?
Cannot understand! Please explain!

'It' inserted into anagram of ominously (bats = anagram) without the 'o' for old. Et voilĂ !

A
Call = cite
On = possible (shown as synonym in thesaurus)

Thank you, Jazzgirl.
I should have got call = cite, but would never have gone for 'on ' as 'possible'!
