Last one, right in the middle...

29a. One on hand to put a stop to gossip (6)

I have B?N?N? - BANANA and BONING fit the space, but can't link to the clue. Any solutions? Thanks in anticipation.

It might just be me, but I found some of the clueing in this weekend's crossword a bit loose

Banana, one on hand. Ban - to put a stop to, and an Ana is a gossip.

Thanks, jazzgirl - I shouldn't have had that 'a' in my parsing, I should just have had 'ana is gossip'. I will soldier on!

It's fine, jazzgirl. I didn't notice your mistake yesterday, but I'm sure it was nothing dramatic!

I agree about the clues this week - some of them require some very arcane knowledge.
