Here we go again. Help needed please with 1a. Local's more lively when fisher's line becomes tense (7) I have ?E?RT?R but the answer may need alteration if I understand the preamble correctly.

Pearter, Scottish variation of perter/livelier. It was Pearler, fisher, and the 'l' swapped to a 't'.

The last two letters mean the lowest/first note - it's in Chambers.

Your H and L ( at the end of 7a and 13a need to be "adjusted"

Can anyone tell me if the highlighting involves diagonals? (So I can give up).

The highlighting does involve diagonals, nelson. I've finished but I haven't grasped how the thematic adjustments relate to the quotation.
