This is one of our local papers and every week some of the clues are very obscure. I have two left:

7D - Bants (5) - D?E??

12D - Sweep draw (6) - I?F?L?

The closest I can come to 7D is DREAD, but I'm not very happy with that answer. There are many solutions to 12D, none of which really fit.

A reference book I have shows BANT as to reduce or diet so perhaps DIETS.

Ah, I never thought of Googling for BANT, which turns out to be the British Association of Nutritional Therapists!! Ok, I'll go with DIETS. Thanks.

Is it possible that the 1st letter should be R, giving you RAFFLE.

Thanks terry, that's it. The 'I' came from TRICENTENARY which of course should have been TERCENTENARY. All done now.
