Hows about this for a theory

"Save lido swimming cutting grass for now" (4,7)

Answer BANK HOLIDAY

Parse - Save= BANK
Lido swimming= OLID
Grass = HAY
For now= DEF
But it only works if NOW means Today

This is a clue left over from an actual Bank Holiday
Am I right?

The clue is today's. The clue ends with ? Which indicates to me that the whole thing is criptic as you parsed; but also that the whole thing is straight. ie. Save swimming and cutting grass for a bank holiday. That's how I read it anyway.
