Trying to learn how to do cryptics. 18D in today's IT has me baffled, befuddled and bewildered.
Came to a gall on eight of them each (5) -int-
It could be NINTH but have no idea why. Would be v grateful for some help. Thx.

8 pints = a gallon ('gall on')?
