.... or is it 1166? Looking at answers on the forum, it appears I was not the only one to get confused!

My only unsolved clue is 37a "Big Ben has run broken, cutting second". M - N - O? mango .... mungo ....?Anyone help, please?

But, my big issue with Jumbo Cryptic 1165 is: has the setter got something badly wrong? 25a "Warship regularly demanding to get into depth it needs to float" clearly calls for an "a" - draught - (depth of water) in the answer. This is confirmed by 10d where it crosses 25a with the answer "nature trail" (also calling for an "a"). But the famed battleship was Dreadnought (with an "o") i.e. "fear nothing". I can't find the word "dreadnaught" in any reference source.

37 Munro, a Scottish hill/mountain . It's 'run', scrambled, inside 'mo', second.

25 A. Chambers gives 'dreadnought' and 'dreadnaught' the definition of ' a powerful type of battleship or battle-cruiser'.

Thanks, Malone. Maybe OED and Collins are not enough .... or perhaps I need to invest in more up to date editions. Anyway, from scouting around on Google, it seems the word (with an A) means rather more than "an experimental rock band in the US"!!

Most newspapers regard Chambers as the authority for crosswords - they mention other dictionaries occasionally, if a word isn't in Chambers.
