Thanks to my crossword dictionary and this site - and my husband who provided the answer re the London sports stadium! - I have nearly finished this puzzle. I'm glad it's not just me who found it very difficult!

I'd be grateful for help with the two clues I haven't solved yet ..

3d - Encouraging word, I hesitate to say, is something corrosive (5)

4d - Spin accompanying message that can trigger alarm (8)
I've got: T ? I ? W ? R ?
The only possible answer I've found is TAILWORT, but I don't see how it fits.

'oleum' is a corrosive liquid: 'ole!' plus 'um' (hesitation).
