Posted these earlier but think the thread got swamped by others, also Mamya has already answered some in the interim. The rest are....

35a. Ring negotiator up (10) - SHOWJUMPER

I know showjumping can take place in a ring, but so can a million other things (plus they negotiate fences not rings) - UP indicates it's to do do with horses but surely there's more to it - what am I not seeing?

37d. Resist force when beaten, reportedly (4,1,5) - MAKE A STAND (Resist)

I think MAKE = Force, and I presume the rest is a homophone, because of the 'Reportedly', but of what?

48d. Asian equine plague described by poet's ended (6) - ONAGER (Asian equine)

Thanks Mattrom, thanks Imagcq and thanks Mamya.

PS. If that is the parsing of 35a. that's as poor a clue as I think I've ever seen.

Following my earlier squawk (should that be growl?)about the difficulty of this I am very grateful to all who responded to this and to earlier posts, as it was only help from these that enabled me to finish.

I had been thinking that the Jumbos of recent weeks were too easy, but after the strain of this one I'm rapidly changing what passes for my mind.

In addition I had a lot of problems with this entire site yesterday as I no sooner logged in than my machine - or the site - threw me out & I had to start over. This happened many times thus adding to my frustration. Oddly it seems to be working normally this morning.

Thanks, anyway to all who responded.

Good Morning Bear
I am pleased to see that I am not the only one who thought this jumbo was one of the hardest yet.
I finally finished it at 6pm last night, after what seemed like hours of frustration. There are still one or two which I cannot parse, so will try to do so after breakfast.

Dear Jazzgirl

You're very thorough.

You've probably realized that if I have a solution I just jam it in regardless of the parsing. Obviously this can lead to sill mistakes (which you normally correct) but sometimes the parsing is so "scruciatingly" complicated that I can't raise the energy.

I trust you enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Dear Bear
I hope you also enjoy the rest of the weekend.
I am never satisfied until every clue is parsed. I just have one which I have posted on a new thread, then I can enjoy the day.
