Please tell me I'm not alone in finding this one particularly difficult.

Worth having a look on Answerbank - I've seen 3 or 4 different threads on this subject. Might be a few answers/ideas there for you!

Thanks Sudokulover - I seem to be thick there as well - can't find today's referred to. I've vaguely completed about two thirds of it, but in most cases the word play seems obscure. I don't really want the answers - just fellow feeling!

I share your problem AJT. Just cannot get going with one. Only one thread on Answer bank re 1D which i have but cannot get my head around 1A. Anyone willing to help?

1 ac is Cynics - a group of Grecian philosophers - but apart from "start to consider" I haven't got the wordplay, it fits with everything else I've got - if it's correct. I've got the first seven lines more or less complete - and fitting - but the wordplay is so obscure in almost every one.

NI - Back In
CS - First Start and Consider (entrophy = breakup/loss of information)
