Firstly assuming the following is the right answer - 3,2 run away with single member?

I have put legit

If this is right then the following are the 2 clues I am stuck on :

L-W-E-S (7 letters)

cables which can be sent or received on ship

G-E-I-R (7 letters)

Political leader an empire builder? Possibly


The start letters of L and G come from the leg of leg it and I\'m wondering if I\'m wrong because I\'ve been struggling with these last 2 clues.

Yes, I think the first one should be HOP IT, which would give the next clue starting with H - so the answer could be HAWSERS.
