I found it very straight forward today, apart from needing an explanation for 1D:
Old Settler for sacking? (4)
The answer is 'jute' which means sacking, but cannot understand the 'old settler ' bit?
Help, please?

I've just had a strong coffee. Feeling a bit numb today after losing a dear friend and soulmate yesterday. On here to keep my mind off him.

Hi jazzy, sorry to hear your bad news. I always (it's becoming more regular these days) find remembering a rebuke (or worse) from the departed puts a wry smile on my face and concentrates my mind to appreciate the time I had as being privileged to know that person and "prepare myself for his/her expected onslaught" at how I currently feel.

Thanks rusty and ginge.
It was the b****y Alzheimers that took him. Keep at those crosswords and hopefully we cruciverbalists will avoid the disease.
