Me neither, but there again have never heard of Gatsby either. Gather it is from a book but is Gasby the main character and is it a British or an American book ?

Hello, Pigale!
The Great Gatsby is a novel by Scott Fitzgerald.
I have not read it, but I gather that Jay Gatsby is a millionaire.

Ah, it's in New York State!
I always think of New York as a city.

Now, 5 Across.
So one left via Tower Hill exit? (8)
H?A?L?S?.
It seems to be "headless"?
I know executions took place on Tower Hill, London, some centuries ago.
I don't quite grasp the meaning of the clue.
Why "via"? Why "exit".
Obviously a decapitation would leave you headless.
Am I missing something?

I suppose it means if you "exit" at (=via?) Tower Hill it could be by losing your head.

Very clumsy clue, though.
